Why Opt-In is Mandatory

Acceptable Opt-In Methods

1. Web Form Checkbox

Users check a box on a signup form specifically for SMS updates. The checkbox must not be pre-checked.

2. Keyword Opt-In

Users text a keyword (e.g., "JOIN") to your number. You must reply with a confirmation message.

User: JOIN

System: Welcome to [Brand Name] alerts! You'll receive weekly updates. Msg&data rates may apply. Reply HELP for help, STOP to cancel.

What to Include in Opt-In Disclosure

  • Program Name: Clearly state who is sending the message.
  • Frequency: How often will they receive messages? (e.g., "4 msgs/month")
  • Cost: "Msg & data rates may apply".
  • Help/Stop Instructions: "Reply HELP for help, STOP to cancel".
  • Privacy Policy Link: Link to your privacy policy.
